Prague and eastern central Europe belonged to the cultural area of central Europe in the early modern era. Dynastic connections, international nature of the noble community, muti-ethnic population and divers characteristics of dynastic and urban representation give proof of this. Flecha’s nephew wanted to erect a lasting monument —in terms of contemporary culture of remembrance and fame— to his uncle by printing the Ensaladas in Prague. With presumably very close connections between musicians and imperial sponsor —in this case between Rudolf II and Flecha the younger—, the preferences and wishes of the emperor must have shaped the work of the musicians in many fold and subtle ways.
