353 The institute beind tis journal as recently celebrated its 60t anniversary. Since 1947, wen founded by te Slovene Academy of Sciences and Arts, te Institute as gone troug many canges, te team as grown from few to more tan twenty and is currently one of te largest institutes of Academy’s Scientific Researc Centre. Karst researc in most countries is distributed among different, mainly eart science, departments of universities, institutes and museums. There are few „old“ karst institutes in te world, not surprisingly in Slovenia, Romania and Cina, were karst as always posed many questions to te local population. Founding of new karst institutes around te globe (e.g. USA, Ukraine, Switzerland, Croatia, Germany...) sows tat te idea of joining karst researc under „one roof “ is not at all outmoded. Instead of a general description of Institute ́s work, let me introduce te insider’s story of te Karst Researc Institute ZRC SAZU. There are 22 people working at te institute now. These are te people to wom tis essay is dedicated. We come from different backgrounds; we are geologists, geograpers, cemist, biologist, microbiologist and pysicist. Karst, as we know, is a very complex natural, cultural and social penomenon. It is like a complex sculpture tat needs different viewpoints to see te wole picture. That is wy our diversity is good.
