更年期障害の漢方治療治療時における, 血中エストロゲン値, 骨量を測定し, これらの変化について検討した。対象は当院, 更年期ホルモン外来を受診した65例とし, 治療は (1) エストロゲン療法, および (2) 漢方療法として (a) 柴胡加竜骨牡蛎湯, (b) 桂枝茯苓丸, (c) 桃核承気湯の投与を, また (3) 対照として (a) カルシウム製剤のみの投与, および (b) 精神療法 (無治療群とする), をそれぞれ6ヵ月間施行し, 治療前, 治療後に血中E2値, 骨塩量, 骨皮質幅指数などを測定した。その結果, 柴胡加竜骨牡蛎湯群に血中E2値の増加が, 柴胡加竜骨牡蛎湯群, 桃核承気湯群に骨塩量, 骨皮質幅指数の減少の緩和が認められ, このため柴胡加竜骨牡蛎湯は骨粗鬆症の予防に有効と判定した。また漢方療法にカルシウム製剤を併用することにより, 閉経期の骨粗鬆症の予防に高い有用性を示すことが示唆された。
