331 immediate nonhemolytic transfusion reactions developed in the 8, 996 occasions transfused by 55, 540 units of blood components in the post fifteen months in our hospital. The incidence of reactions was 3.7% per occasion and 0.6% per unit. Most of reactions were presented with fever (135 cases, 41%) and urticaria (141 cases, 42%). And the incidence of febrile reactions was higher in transfusions of whole blood or concentrated red blood cells than in fresh frozen plasma. The serological examination showed that the febrile reactions were closely related to cytotoxic anti-HLA antibodies dependent upon complement (p<0.001), but not related to anti-IgG antibodies.
