New data on the distribution of Spatulodinium pseudonoctiluca (Noctilucales: kofoidiniaceae) in the Mexican Pacific

In this paper the distribution of the dinoflagellate Spatulodinium pseudonoctiluca in different areas of the Mexican Pacific is depicted based on samples gathered during 2005-2010. This species is first recorded for Bahia de los Angeles, Loreto and Bahia de Mazatlan in the Gulf of California, and in the southwest portion of the Mexican Pacific at Bahia de Acapulco, Guerrero and Salina Cruz, Oaxaca. This species appears in the study area mainly during the winter-spring period. The mature cells of S. pseudonoctiluca range from 100-173 μm in length and 89-120 μm in width. Cell size of the gymnodiniod stages observed in Bahia de La Paz ranged from 90 to 190 μm in length. Nuevos datos sobre la distribucion de Spatulodinium pseudonoctiluca (Noctilucales: Kofoidiniaceae) en el Pacifico Mexicano Se presenta la distribucion del dinoflagelado Spatulodinium pseudonoctiluca en diferentes areas del Pacifico Mexicano con base en muestras obtenidas durante el periodo 2005-2010. Esta especie se registra por primera vez para la Bahia de Los Angeles, Loreto y Bahia de Mazatlan en el Golfo de California y en la Bahia de Acapulco, Guerrero, y Salina Cruz, Oaxaca, en la porcion suroccidental del Pacifico Mexicano. En el area de estudio S. pseudonoctiluca se presenta principalmente en el periodo invierno-primavera. Las celulas maduras de S. pseudonoctiluca midieron 100–173 μm de largo, y 89–120 μm de ancho; los estadios gymnodinioides observados en la Bahia de La Paz midieron 90–190 μm de largo.
