Comunidades indígenas del Cauca y la participación política: 1991, 1992, 1994 y 1998

This study focuses on the indigenous communities of the department of Cauca, the processes of struggle and organization that have been carried out allowing their presence in scenarios of political participation, negotiation and linkage processes for decision making of indigenous populations in the nation, The objective is to analyze and contrast the evolution of the political participation of these communities in the electoral process that took place since the creation of the Constitution in 1991 until 1998, emphasizing only the elections for the Constituent Assembly, Senate, House of Representatives, Government and Mayoralties, which will be a viewpoint to reference the progress of the participation. This article is structured using both quantitative and qualitative methods. At first, statistical data is reviewed as a fundamental element in the diagnosis and decision-making of political actors, and in this case it is necessary to construct units of analysis and variables that allow us to measure political participation in electoral processes.
