The expansion of the ethanol industry has led to the installation of sugarcane mills in areasaccommodated by beef cattle in southeastern Brazil Outbreaks fly-by-vinasse (Stomoxys calcitrans) in cattle have been reported in recent years across the country, associated with these plants. Visits to private properties livestockand plants were held in November 2012, the end of the fly outbreaks occurred in the municipalities of São Joaquimda Barra and Guaira, SP. Interviews, observations and collections of immature flies were held in local entomologicaland the material collected was taken to the laboratory for further emergency. High infestations of fly-by-stables andgrouping behavior of cattle were observed. Breeding sites were found in the places and the emergence of S.calcitrans was found in samples collected both on farms and in factories. The set of information, in situ observationsand results of samples allowed to perform a preliminary epidemiological approach on the dynamics of these outbreaks fly by and discuss potential risk factors.A ampliação da indústria sucroalcooleira tem levado à instalação de usinas sucroalcooleiras em áreas acomodadas pela pecuária de corte na região Sudeste do País. Surtos pela mosca-da-vinhaça (Stomoxys calcitrans) em bovinos têm sido relatados nos últimos anos em todo País, associados a estas usinas. Visitas em propriedades pecuárias particulares e usinas foram realizadas em novembro de 2012, ao final de surtos pela mosca ocorridos nos municípios de São Joaquim da Barra e Guaíra, SP. Entrevistas, observações e coletas de dípteros imaturos foram realizadas nos locais e o material entomológico coletado foi levado ao laboratório para posterior emergência. Elevadas infestações pela mosca-dos-estábulos e comportamento de agrupamento dos bovinos foram observados. Sítios de reprodução foram encontrados nos locais e a emergência de S. calcitrans foi constatada nas amostras coletadas tanto nas fazendas como nas usinas. O conjunto de informações, observações in loco e resultados das amostragens possibilitaram realizar uma abordagem epidemiológica preliminar sobre a dinâmica dos referidos surtos pela mosca e discutir potenciais fatores de risco
