The surfaces of automobile interior parts have geometrically microfabricated textures, which are called “grain textures.” The purpose of our research is to mill dies with grain by use of digital data. We generate microfabricated geometric data from a large CAD model of a die with the out-of-core method, texture synthesis, and displacement mapping. With these geometric data, the die with grain can be manufactured by milling or laser machining.
