The article deals with the geographical organization of theCzech transport system and with the changes in the transporthierarchy of settlement centres of Czechia during thetransformation period. This paper focuses on long-termdevelopment tendencies in the transport hierarchy of settlementcentres emergence, which create the basic framework for furtherresearch. It also considers changes of significance andstructure in the transport hierarchy of settlement centresbetween 1990 and 2005 with regard to the trends in thedevelopment of the transport sector. The analyses mainly resultfrom the Road transport census and are focused only onmacro-regional changes in the transport system of Czechia.

Geographical organisation of the transport system in Czechia and its development in the transformation period
