espanolTomando como punto de partida los ensayos La isla que se repite, del cubano Antonio Benitez Rojo, y El pais de cuatro pisos, del puertorriqueno Jose Luis Gonzalez, y a traves de la consideracion de algunas cuestiones sobre la nacion, transculturacion, raza o indigenismo, este ensayo pone de manifiesto algunas de las multiples maneras en las que el Caribe hispano y las islas Canarias pueden y deben ser interpretadas en el contexto de un desarrollo comun y una interdependencia de sus discursos identitarios, por lo que proponemos la inclusion del archipielago canario en el concepto de meta-archipielago caribeno propuesto por Benitez Rojo. EnglishUsing the essays The repeating island –by Cuban author Antonio Benitez-Rojo–, and The Four-Storeyed Country and Other Essays –by Puerto Rican author Jose-Luis Gonzalez– as a starting point, this essay takes into consideration some notions about nation, transculturation, race or indigenismo in order to present some of the many ways in which the Hispanic Caribbean and the Canary Islands can and should be interpreted within the context of a common development and the interdependence of their identity-based discourses. By doing so, this essay proposes the inclusion of the Canarian archipelago within the concept of meta-archipelago, coined by Cuban essayist Benitez-Rojo.
