Background: Students who are in the final stage of the lecture or doing their final project complain they have increase in appetite and want to eat continuously because of stress. This behavior is known as emotional eating. Emotional eating is someones’s habit that usually want to consume too much food due to conditions, feeling, and memory of someone. Objective: To know the description about emotional eating behavior in the 4th year students of Nursing Study Program at Bethesda Yakkum Institute of Health Sciences Yogyakarta in 2018. Method: This research was a qualitative design with phenomenology method. Sampling technique used purposive sampling with 10 respondents. The research used semi structured interview and analysis contained transcription, coding, categorization, theme, and triangulation. Result: The result shows emotional eating happens because of an emotion they feel. Eating becomes a habit when someone has many problems, in this research emotional eating happens as an effect of the difficulties during accomplishment. Hormonal also makes eating desire appear. In the practice of emotional eating, students usually choose some variations food, but usually not a staple foods. Conclusion: Students often have emotional eating when they find the difficultlly during accomplishment. When students follow the desire for eat, they gain the motivation back though most of them delay their final project accomplishment. Suggestion: The result of this study can be used as reference for the next research abaout eating behavior.
