The contents of the book under review consist of an introduction and prologue (i-xxii), followed by ten chapters which present an overview of different aspects of the Irish language in the 19 and 20 centuries right up to the present (pp 1-238). The book places particular emphasis on the role of Irish in education with special reference to Gaeltacht areas. This is followed in turn by an Appendix (pp 239-240), a Bibliography (pp 241-256) and an Index (pp 257-265).
