Our aim was to investigate the effects of a solution obtained from seeds of germinated sesame on the microstructure of the erosion lesions of the dental enamel. Two regimes were applied: cyclic (alternating with artificial saliva) and in static conditions (sesame only). The variations in the mechanical, morphological, topographic and chemical aspects of the enamel microstructure were determined. In addition, the chemical composition of the seed was analysed by EDS and the solution obtained by ICP-MS. Permanent teeth obtained with the patient's informed consent were used. Suitable enamel samples for each instrument were prepared to obtain surface and subsurface information. Microhardness tests, MEB and AFM observation, elemental chemical analysis by EDS and XPS, description of the crystalline structure by XRD and chemical groups with FTIR, N2 adsorption test and specific surface analysis were performed. An erosion injury was created by immersing the enamel 90 min in a soft beverage. In the seed, resulted concentration was Ca: 7.49 and P: 9.83 (mg/g of sample) and the Ca/P ratio was higher in the cover than in the inner. The pH of the solution was six on a colorimetric scale. In the enamel treated with sesame solution cycled with artificial saliva, a lower loss of Vickers hardness (22.75%) was recorded in relation to the treated with water (25.58%) and with artificial saliva (25.13%). At AFM, Rq (nm) decreased from 316.75 in the eroded enamel to 97.95 in the sesame treated. An irregular material and pore plugging was observed at the MEB. The atomic determination with XPS showed an increase of C and N. An irregular surface with pore plugging was observed at the MEB. The enamel treated with sesame 24h presented an increase in the mechanical properties of 14% in "Er" and 38% in "H". The MEB also detected a heterogeneous layer covering the pores. The roughness decreased with respect to eroded enamel. The difference in the Ca / P ratio of the enamel treated with sesame and artificial saliva was significant (p<0.05). Through XRD the crystal structure of the hydroxyapatite and the surface amorphous layer were identified. The FTIR showed the substitution of chemical groups. The specific surface increased in the enamel treated with sesame but decreased the volume and pore size in relation to erosion. We conclude that the germinated sesame solution produces mechanical, morphological, topographical and chemical modifications in the eroded enamel microstructure. The inorganic and organic components of the seed are involved in these phenomena.
