The endoparasitic wasp, Pseudapanteles dignus, (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) is an important natural enemy of the tomato pest, Tuta absoluta (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) affecting the La Plata Horticultural belt (Buenos Aires province). Damage caused by the pest can reach up to 80% if the necessary precautions are not taken. To control this pest, highly toxic insecticides are used generating pollution, harming of natural enemies and promoting the generation of resistance. The insecticides called biorationals are a good alternative for pest control due to their mode of action towards more specific pests and more selective to natural enemies, resulting suitable to the premises of integrated pest management. Currently there is evidence that some of these products generate harmful effects and that its action on biological control is very variable. Therefore, the evaluation of the effect of these insecticides on P. dignus is indispensable. The aim of this thesis was to determine the toxicity of five biorational insecticides (chlorantraniliprole, emamectin benzoate, acetamiprid, metaflumizone and azadirachtin) used for pest control, applied in their maximum concentrations, with two methods of exposure and two life stages of P. dignus: pupae (protected state; topical) and adult (unprotected state, ingestion). Acetamiprid caused high toxicity in both stages meanwhile, chlorantraniliprole showed low toxicity for both stages evaluated. The other insecticides displayed intermediate toxicity values, highlighting azadirachtin by its highly negative action on the reproductive variables evaluated. This study allowed us to identify the different impact of insecticides on the parasitoid and determine the recommended option, prior field evaluation, to be used in conservation of natural control or in conjunction with biological control agents used in integrated pest management.
