– if it is understood as that part of the country that is outside of cities, occupies more than 90% of the country’s territory. In Poland, within rural areas, we have over 43 thousand so-called basic settlement units. Since 1950, the number of the largest villages (over 1000 inhabitants) and large villages (over 500–1000 inhabitants) located close to the cities has been systematically growing and the dynamics of their number and population growth shapes the phenomenon of gentrification (settling in the countryside of the urban population mainly representing the middle class) in tandem with their depreciation and largely proletarianization. Residents of rural areas make up about 40% of the Polish population, revealing an upward trend, dealing with their existence in various, not necessarily traditional and effective ways. Thus, the percentage of affluent people and those experiencing social or material mires increases in Polish villages. This material stratification of the population of Polish villages, families inhabiting them, raises new disturbing phenomena and states of affairs, and their growth dynamics are shaped, among others, the above – mentioned by the processes of gentrification, deagrarianization and proletarianization of village communities. Wiejskość Polski – jeśli rozumieć ją jako tę część terytorium kraju, która znajduje się poza miastami, zajmuje przeszło 90% jego powierzchni a  tak zwanych wiejskich podstawowych jednostek osadniczych mamy w  Polsce ponad 43 tys. Od roku 1950 wzrasta systematycznie liczba wsi największych (powyżej 1000 mieszkańców) i  wsi dużych (500–1000 mieszkańców) ulokowanych w  pobliżu miast, a  dynamikę wzrostu ich liczby i  zamieszkującej je populacji kształtuje zjawisko gentryfikacji (osiedlania się na wsi ludności miejskiej reprezentującej głównie klasę średnią) w parze z ich dezagraryzacją i znacznej mierze proletaryzacją. Mieszkańcy środowisk wiejskich stanowią około 40% ludności Polski, ujawniając tendencję wzrostową, radząc sobie ze swoją egzystencją w  rozmaity, już niekoniecznie tradycyjny i  skuteczny sposób. Wzrasta więc w  polskich wsiach odsetek osób zamożnych, ale i  doświadczających mizerii socjalnej czy materialnej. To materialne rozwarstwienie ludności polskich wsi, zamieszkujących w nich rodzin, powoduje nowe niepokojące zjawiska i stany rzeczy, a ich dynamikę wzrostową kształtują między innymi wspomniane procesy: gentryfikacja, dezagraryzacja i  proletaryzacja społeczności
