Feline immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) is one of the most important and common infectious diseases of cats. FIV is a retroviruses that belongs to the lentivírus subgroup and it is responsible for a severe acquired chronic immunodeficiency in cats leading to death of infected animals. The standard method for FIV diagnosis is based on isolation of infective virus from peripheral blood lymphocytes. Such assay is longstanding and expensive for routine laboratory practice. Previous studies showed that infected cats present high levels of antiP24 protein. This protein can be used as a target for diagnosis of Feline immunodeficiency. In this work we described our preliminary results to achieve a dual path immunochromatography kit for FIV.
