Allergy is a hypersensitivity reaction initiated by immunological mechanisms, either by antibodies or by cells. In type I hypersensitivity the antibody responsible is IgE. Atopy is the tendency to sensitize and produce IgE antibodies in response to allergen exposure. Allergens have been classified into: inhalants, food, drugs, insects and occupational. To make an adequate diagnosis of allergic disease you must have a complete medical history, physical evaluation, in vivo tests; as well as in vitro tests such as the measurement of specific IgE. Due to the limitations of skin tests, as well as the need for a quick, simple, sensitive and specific diagnosis, specific allergen tests are used to identify sensitization. The behavior of the data of specific allergens and total IgE, allows to optimize the diagnostic protocols for the allergic disease and that these become more effective, able to reduce costs and that this information helps the clinician in the first steps of allergic disease, to manage and control the manifestations and even eliminate or eradicate the disease.
