The study aimed to know the perception of users of the mental health service about assistance in the Family Health Strategy Units. This was a research with a qualitative approach, with an exploratory character, through the application of individual semi-structured interviews to users of the Psychosocial Care Center in Ilhéus / Bahia. The analysis was based on the emergence of recurring information that was coded into categories. Then, a theoretical framework was sought to cover these categories, relating to what was raised. It was found in the speeches: a deficiency in the formation of bonds between users and teams of the Family Health Strategy; that their clinical demands are mostly met with difficulties, and; unpreparedness of the teams when it comes to mental health needs, requiring referral and even refusal of care. Given the above, it is evident the importance of conducting more in-depth studies on the subject and expanding knowledge about mental health in Primary Care, as well as the knowledge of users with mental disorders, about their rights as citizens to enjoy the services of Family Health Strategy and to participate in your own treatment.
