Ambience is an extremely relevant topic for the consolidation of the humanized model of delivery and birth care. Considering that the adequacy of the hospital ambience proposed by the National Humanization Policy is a trend in Brazil, reinforced by RDC 36/2008 and recently the creation of Stork Networks throughout the Country, the objective was to reflect on the environment in the care of childbirth and birth, Orienting good practices of humanization in parturient care. A theoretical-reflexive study was carried out, based on the critical reading of current scientific studies, which refer to the benefits of ambience to the binomial, based on humanized practices recommended by the Ministry of Health and scientific evidence. Structural factors, assistance to normal delivery performed by obstetrical nurses and the presence of companions were cited as strengthening the environment qualification. Thus, there should be more investment by managers and efforts of the competent bodies in institutions that provide assistance to the parturient to try to ensure that women can experience, in a humanized way, as recommended by the Ministry of Health, one of the most important moments of their lives: Birth of a child.
