The referred study is a qualitative research, which aims to know the pedagogical practice of the teacher in the teaching-learning process from the use of the textbook. It is worth mentioning that this research is part of the Scientific Initiation Program PIBIC / CNPQ. Two guiding questions served as a basis for analysis: How is the textbook explored by the teacher in the teaching of Brazilian Journal of Development Braz. J. of Develop., Curitiba, v. 6, n. 9, p. 69604-69613, sep. 2020. ISSN 2525-8761 69605 Geography? How far does the geography teacher's pedagogical practice go beyond the use of textbooks? Lessons were observed in a class from the 6th year of elementary school in which the content “Movimentos da Terra” was worked on. Although it was used during classes, the textbook was present in specific moments of verification to monitor the content when explained by the teacher. This means that it is still necessary for the teacher to know how to better explore the textbook, going beyond a support resource during classes.
