Characterized by the provision of immediate care to victims of accident or sudden illness, in situations where their physical state threatens life, first aid can be performed by anyone, provided that they have the proper knowledge about the subject. The aim of this study is to evaluate the importance of teachers' knowledge about first aid. This is a systematic review study, followed by a meta-analysis covering the databases conducted in the Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval Sistem Online (MEDLINE/PUBMED), in the Latin American and Caribbean Literature (LILACS) and in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO). Articles were used in the languages Portuguese, English and Spanish, with the publication period of the last 5 years, using the descriptors in DeCS: First aid, knowledge and teachers, using the operator Booleano AND. Inconclusive and/or replicated articles, studies not available completely and free of charge, without focusing on impacts caused, reports, reviews were excluded. The analysis represents a total effect of 0.54 with CI of 0.49 and 0.59, which represents a size of great effect on the lack of knowledge of teachers about first aid. Therefore, it is of fundamental importance the knowledge of the population and not only of health Brazilian Journal of Development Braz.
