Prevalência de colonização por Streptococcus agalactiae em gestantes

Streptococcus agalactiae or Lancefield Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is a gram-positive bacterium naturally present in the residing microbiota in the mucous membranes of some human individuals. The clinical relevance is due to the risk of developing diseases such as sepsis, pneumonia and meningitis due to vertical contamination of neonates from colonized parturients. This paper aims to verify the prevalence of Streptococcus agalactiae in pregnant women in the city of Montes Claros, MG. Methods: This is a quantitative, descriptive cross-sectional study, with a retrospective documentary type. Data were collected from 535 records of activity records of pregnant patients undergoing microbiological examination for research of Streptococcus agalactiae in a network of clinical analysis laboratories, located in the city of Montes Claros (MG), in the period from January 2015 to April 2018. The collection and processing of the material was carried out according to the recommendations of the CDC (2010). Results: The results of microbiological exams for the search for Streptococcus agalactiae were obtained from 535 pregnant women aged between 15 and 47 years, which were at gestational age between 35 and 38 weeks and were carried out from January 2015 to April 2018. Of the surveyed pregnant women, the majority (n.495 / 92.5%) carried out a bacterial survey in both anatomical sites (vaginal / anal), can be observed that they were attended in a private regime (74.4%) and a small percentage belonging to Rede Cegonha (2.2%). It was possible to observe that of these analyzed patients, 82 presented positive results for GBS, which corresponded to the prevalence of 15.3%. Conclusion: can be concluded given the significant prevalence found (15.3%) and pathogenicity to neonates, that a survey of colonization of pregnant women by Streptococcus agalactiae should be expanded as a prenatal measure in health services, so that 100% of pregnant women are researched, at two anatomical collection sites, ensuring neonatal safety.
