The Education through Work for Health Program (PET Saúde) aims to promote teachingservice integration, in the sense of collaborating with the academic training of students and the permanent education of health professionals. Materials and Methods: Participants in the program, academics from different courses, as well as professors from the University and professionals from the public health system. Based on a schedule, activities were carried out in order to identify demands in the Basic Health Units (UBS) and outline strategies to remedy them. Results and Discussion: PET Saúde has provided a great exchange of experiences between professionals and students, and thus has contributed to improvements in services, in the training of academics and also in the way in which health professionals work. Thus demonstrating the importance of the association between the theory presented in educational institutions and the practical activities performed in the services.
