Y A-T-IL UNE FRONTIERE CHINOISE ?, par JEAN-LUC DOMENACH Malgré les puissantes barrières édifiées par le régime communiste, il semble que la population chinoise ne se trouve pas complètement privée d'informations sur le reste du monde. Ainsi, trois grands flux d'informations transitent par la colonie de Hong Kong qui, bien que chinoise par le peuplement, sert de sas entre la Chine populaire et l'Occident. Ils sont véhiculés par les mass média, les voyageurs en Chine et l'appareil communiste de la colonie. Ces informations contiennent une image très positive de Hong Kong et une appréciation plus nuancée de l'Occident. Elles atteignent en Chine deux minorités : ceux qui, Cantonais ou Chinois d'outre-mer, possèdent des parents dans la colonie, et surtout les cadres supérieurs. Bien que leur effet soit mal connu, ces informations semblent avoir influé sur l'opinion publique chinoise et peut-être même sur la formation de la politique d'ouverture de Pékin. Three main currents of information pass through Hong Kong which, though Chinese by population, serves as a sieve between People's China and the West. These three currents are provided by the mass media, tourists and the Communist organisation in the colony itself. The information thus provided gives a positive image of Hong Kong and a more subtle appreciation of the West. It reaches two minority groups in China : those who are Cantonese or Chinese from overseas and have parents in the colony and particularly higher executives. Although its effect is not well known, this information seems to have influenced Chinese public opinion and maybe even the formation of Peking's new open-door policy.
