MA ft In order to study the availability of various comprehension strategies in to year olds Ss were presented with sentences comprising spatial localization marks identifying pronominal subject the referent of which appears within the utterance predicate and prepositional phrase These sentences were arranged in four types of sequence according to the lexical and positional characteristics assigned to the that was the pronoun referent It was possible to identify the effects respectively of morpho-syntactic positional and lexical-pragmatic cues The experiment provided evidence for two modes of interpretation using respectively lexical-pragmatic cues and syntactic cues The lexical-pragmatic mode was observed at each age level studied but was most predominant among the youngest Ss The morpho-syntactic mode of interpretation appears at about four years and becomes increasingly predominant thereafter In the case of few Ss it was not possible to reduce the type of performance to single priori predictable mode of interpretationRésumé Pour étudier, chez des enfants de 3 à 6 ans, la disponibilité de diverses stratégies de compréhension, on a présenté des phrases comportant des marques de localisation spatiale mettant en jeu : un sujet pronominal à réfèrent interne à l'énoncé, un prédicat, un syntagme prépositionnel. Ces phrases sont réparties en quatre types de suites selon les caractéristiques lexicales et positionnelles attribuées au SN réfèrent du pronom. Elles rendent disponibles pour l' interprétation : des indices morphosyntaxiques, positionnels et lexico-pragmatiques. L'expérience a permis de mettre en évidence deux modes d'interprétation utilisant, pour l'un : des indices lexico-pragmatiques ; pour l'autre : des indices syntaxiques. Le mode d'interprétation lexico-pragmatique est présent à tous les âges étudiés, mais surtout chez les sujets les plus jeunes. Le mode d'interprétation morphosyntaxique apparaît vers 4 ans et se développe au-delà. Il n'a pas été possible par ailleurs de ramener le type de performance d'un petit nombre de sujets à un mode d'interprétation unique et prédictible a priori.Vion Monique.
