L'objectif de cet article est de montrer l'évolution des profils en long d'un cours d'eau navigable sous l'effet des aménagements. La Grande Saône, de Verdun- sur-le-Doubs à Lyon, présente des caractères morphologiques (pente faible, succession de hauts- fonds) et un régime (crues durables et étiages marqués) particulièrement contraignants pour la navigation, ce qui explique l'intensité des interventions directes de l'homme dans le lit naturel depuis plus de deux siècles. Des documents d'archives ont permis de quantifier l'évolution des profils en long du talweg et du plan d'eau entre 1869 et 1989. Les modifications provoquées par le resserrement des eaux entre des digues submersibles, puis par le partage en biefs et enfin par le creusement du chenal navigable sont importantes. Il en résulte aujourd'hui un plan d'eau en escalier et un lit considérablement approfondi (4,5 m en moyenne), où se succèdent les fosses d'extraction.The aim of this article is to show the effects of works on the long profile of a waterway. From Verdun-sur- le-Doubs to Lyon, the Grande Saône's morphological characteristics (gentle slope, succession of shoals) and the nature of river flow (loading floods and significant low water levels) have a particularly constraining effect on navigation. This explains the importance of human action over more than two centuries to correct the river's natural bed. With the aid of archival documents, it is possible to calculate the longitudinal development of the talweg and water levels between 1869 and 1989. Important modifications have been caused by embankments, the creation of stillwater reaches and the excavation of a navigable channel. This has resulted in a stepped waterway and the significant deepening of the channel (4,5 m on average), especially where gravels have been extracted.Astrade Laurent, Dumont Annie.
