The association potters-limemakers or tile-makers-limemakers is such a common phenomenon that it may seem useless to mention new examples, except if the techniques used are innovating. The use of limekilns with superimposed hearths in the Lower Rhône region as early as the XIIIth century is a very probable hypothesis in view of stratigraphy and the succession of remains unearthed at Bollène. This process using successive hearths seems to be attested by excavations in and after the XVIIth century; it is not mentioned in the encyclopedic studies of the following century. Its “rediscovery” in the XIXth century limemakers’ handbooks curiously refers to an Apt crockery-maker’s innovation, maybe in the wake of the aristocracy’s “useful entertainments” of the end of the XVIIIth century.L’association potiers- chaufourniers ou tuiliers - chaufourniers est un phénomène si commun qu’il peut paraître vain de l’illustrer à nouveau, sauf si la technique employée semble novatrice. L’utilisation de fours à chaux à foyers superposés dès le XIIIe siècle dans le Bas Rhône est une hypothèse fort probable au vu de la stratigraphie et de la succession des vestiges dégagés à Bollène. Cette structure particulière et inédite des fours à chaux du site médiéval de Saint-Blaise fait l’objet d’un essai de reconstitution. Ce procédé employant des foyers successifs ne semble attesté par la fouille qu’à partir du XVIIe siècle; il est absent des études encyclopédiques du XVIIIe siècle. Sa •redécouverte” dans les manuels de chaufourniers du XIXe siècle fait curieusement référence à l'innovation d'un faïencier d'Apt, peut-être dans la lignée des " divertissements utiles" de l'aristocratie de la fin du XVIIIe siècle.Thiriot Jacques.
