A new polycyclic compound, 1,1′-{1,4-phenylene bis[3-(6-chloro-2-methyl-4-phenylquinolin-3-yl)-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazole-5,1-diyl]}dibutan-1-one (3) has been synthesized by cyclocondensation of (2E,2′E)-1,1′-bis(6-chloro-2-methyl-4-phenylquinolin-3-yl)-3,3′-(1,4-phenylene)diprop-2-en-1-one (2) and hydrazine hydrate in butanoic acid. The structure of this compound was established by elemental analysis, 1H-NMR,  13C-NMR, mass and IR spectroscopy
