In high density magneto-optical (MO) recording, the side walls conditions of a land/groove substrate strongly affect the recording and readout performance. We developed an RIE-formed substrate having smooth surfaces to achieve higher density recording°. Domain wall displacement detection (DWDD) technique has an exceptional ability for high resolution linear recording in optical storage2). The domain wall mobility is very important for high performance of DWDD. In our studies, we have improved the domain wall mobility by properly designing the side-wall geometry 3) 4). Last year, we developed a side-wall-annealing process and found this method was very effective for obtaining high domain wall mobility. Using this method, we realized an areal density of 15 Gbit/inch2 on a land/groove DWDD disc with a red laser 5). On the other hand, the track-wobbling is a well known method for practical optical discs as the method of the producing the information of motor control and track address. However, in the case of DWDD, the possibility of an influence from track-wobble on the domain wall mobility has been reported 6). In this paper, we investigate the effect of the side-wall-annealing process on the domain wall mobility of a track-wobbled DWDD disc.
