This paper reports properties of a homogeneously aligned liquid crystal microlens of which the focal length is controlled by applied voltage and the response properties both without and with a bias voltage, which are very important for applying the microlens to the optical head. It also describes the design of fresnel lens with liquid crystal microlens to expand its diameter and further describes the possibility of applying the liquid crystal microlens to the optical heads.
