Betel plant (Piper betle L) is a type of plant that grows vines reaching between 5-15 m. This plant as a medicinal plant that is efficacious for the healing of skin disease caused by the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus because it has a good antiseptic. Plant part used is the leaves because many contain phenol derivatives. This study aims to determine the antibacterial effects of extracts of betel leaf (Piper betle L) and to determine the concentration of betel leaf extract which has the most effective antibacterial effects against Staphylococcus aureus causes skin disease. The method used is the experimental method of experimental design completely Fitofarmaka, Vol.5, No.2, Desember 2015 ISSN:2087-9164 59 randomized design (CRD) using two methods, namely methods reflux and maceration with each concentration of extracts of betel leaf (Piper betle L) consisting of a single factor, namely the concentration of extracts of betel leaf (Piper betle L) to the level of a factor of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25%. The observed response variable is broad zone of inhibition of Staphylococcus aureus.Hasil showed that the betel leaf extract contained antibacterial compounds are effective in inhibiting the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus. Inhibition zone began to look at a concentration of 5%. Treatment by maceration, at a concentration of 10% and 20% inhibition zone was not significantly different, while at concentrations of 15% and a concentration of 25% inhibition zone produced significantly different with all concentrations used. Treatment by way of reflux, at a concentration of 10% and 25% inhibition zone was not significantly different, while at concentrations of 15% and a concentration of 20% inhibition zone produced significantly different with all concentrations used. Thus, the concentration obtained betel leaf extract has antibacterial effect is most effective at a concentration of 25% by maceration, while reflux means that at a concentration of 20%.
