A new method is presented for analysing biological time series with only a few observations of many species. It operates by selecting the more informative species and describing the temporal changes of a community using a Principal Components Analysis method based on the relative proportions of selected species. The method was tested on a macrobenthic time series data from the Bay of Morlaix (western English Channel).
