Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Tumor of the Bladder: Report of Two Cases

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a rarebut distinctive lesion with uncertain malignant potentialand unknown etiology. IMT has been reported in vari-ous anatomic sites, but is rare in genitourinary tract.Pathologically, the lesion is composed of dominant spin-dle cell proliferation with variable amounts of an inflam-matory component. These spindle cells are now knownto be myofibroblasts, which account for the current des-ignation for this disease (1 -4). IMT presents a diagnosticdilemma for radiologists and pathologists because theradiologic and histological features often mimic those ofa malignant neoplasm. However, the clinical course isknown to be benign as the tumor grows slowly and doesnot metastasize or undergo a malignant transformation(2).Case Reports
