Over the past 30 years, an increasing number of tonsillectomies have been performed using “hot” electrosurgical techniques, and diathermy is among the most widely used. Although diathermal instruments can cut tissues and coagulate vessels quickly and easily, they can also cause pain and inadvertent injury.
