The purpose of this article is formed into intention opening of genreand style elements of works for viola of the XX – the bigining of the XXIcenturies, which are indicated in modern technologies of composer'sthinking (on the example of Valse for viola solo by Ivan Karabits). Theseries of methods for this investigation is created in relationship ofhistorical, comparative, axiological, analytical and systematic approachesof researching the genre characteristics of modern Ukrainian works forviola. Scientific newness of this article constitutes into comprehensiveanalysis and justification of genre indicators and results of modernukrainian music works for viola (on the example of Valse for viola soloby Ivan Karabits). Conclusions. Valse for viola solo by celebratedcomposer, conductor Ivan Karabits of the second of the half XX – thebeginning of the XXI centuries – the example of interaction of traditionalgenre and modern thinking of composer, which expressed in the expansionof the artistic-imaginative and idea-substantive components of the valsegenre, in the development of the dramatic boundaries of the work for asolo instrument, in the composer’s symphonic thinking, and in theevolution of the main theme of the work from traditional artistic content ofvalse, to a modern and changing image of modernity.
