The article presents the analysis of tasks and location of the CEMI RAS (further Central Economics and Mathematics Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences) node in the core telecommunication network (OTS RAS-MSU). The article examines the functional characteristics of the node, tasks solved within a narrow framework, its capabilities in the OTS RAS-MSU network and prospects for further development. The issues of access of scientific teams and individual scientists to computer resources created within the network and outside of it are considered. Special attention is paid to the use of the information space of the network for conducting economic research with further access to the European and world information space. The article discusses the prospects for further development of the node to increase its functional capabilities, create an environment for conducting economic research at a new qualitative level in order to increase the efficiency of scientists obtaining scientific results. The results presented in the article were used in development of a long-term plan for development of the institute and determined the areas for research under the "Nauka" program, where the CEMI RAS should be one of the leaders in economic research.
