In order to presume whether the metal iodides are formed in the corrosive environments of the Magnesium-Iodine cycle proposed to make hydrogen by thermochemical process, thermodynamic treatment of the gas-metal system was conducted. Phase stability diagram of metals, drawn from the standard free energy of formation of the substances involved in the corrosion reactions, gives the key to thermodynamic approach, but the equilibrium pressures of iodine and oxygen should be known beforehand. In order to save the cumbersome work to solve a set of non-linear equations for equilibrium calculation in each case, the idea of graphical representation of equilibrium pressures devised by Gurry was introduced. Assuming that the molecules present in gas mixture are H2, I2, HI, O2 and H2O, a set of equations, which represent equilibrium relationships under the total pressure equal to 1 atm, was solved numerically by the method of "regula falsi". Gurry diagram with the parameters of Po2, FI 2, (P2I2/FO2), and (FI2/FO2) were drawn. By referring to the phase stability diagrams, stable regions of iodides and oxides of several metals were determined. As for Ti, Zr, and Ta, oxides are stable in the environments corresponding to Mg-I cycle. With regard to Fe, Ni, and Cr, oxides are not always stable in the environment of high hydrogen content.
