The optimistic quote above was written in 1903, by a labour journalist outlining the preconditions of socialism in the eastern periphery of the Grand Duchy of Finland. Characteristic of the socialist discourse of the time, he used the phrase ‘the sun of socialism’. It was one of the most important symbols of the Finnish labour movement in the early 20th century, figuring not only in newspapers, but also in poetry and red banners.
