当地区はいわゆ る寺 泊層 の泥岩を主 とす る地層 か ら成 る。地区内における泥岩 の露 出地点を図-1に 示す。 これ らの露出地点 ではいずれ も泥岩は クラックによ って細片 化 し,ま た粘土化 して流れ 出してい るが,渓 流 に絶えず 洗われ る状態 のところでは比較的堅硬 であ る。 この こと か ら,こ の泥岩 の細片化現象は主 としてそのスレーキ ン グ(吸 水崩壊)性 によること が わ か る。一部(た とえ ば,ボ ー リングB2,3の コア)に おける場合 のように, かな らず しも乾湿の繰 り返 しを受けないで も容易 に細片 化す るものの見 られ ることか ら推察 すると,細 片化の原 因は地質学的 ワイ力(歪 力)に よ るものもあるか も知れ ない1)。いずれに しても,こ の細片化お よ び粘土化は, この地 区の地すべ りの有 力な素 因の一 つを なす ものであ る。 地区内の露 出は図-1に 示すよ うに局部 的で あり,し か もいずれ も塊状無構造 に近 く,そ の上細片化 してい るの で,地 質構造 は把握 しに くい。 しか し,地 区周辺 には砂
