length of wing bones represents not the exact bone length but shows externally measurable propotions. The spread wing was examined from below. The primaries were ten in number with reduced no. 11, the secondaries were 25 on the right and 24 on the left, not including the tertiaries. Since the humerus is very long in the albatross, it bears (though not attached directly to the bone) a distinct feather series, which I would call 'the humerals', and a continued wing surface of primaries -secondarieshumerals is formed, the last part being an important basal portion of the wing.
