東京都港区元赤坂にある赤坂御用地は皇居や新宿御苑 と並ぶ,東 京都内最大の緑地の一つで ある。この地ではそれまでに山階芳麿博士によりキジの調査が行われていたが,1965年 春,昭 和天皇のご内意により山階鳥類研究所に皇居内鳥類調査の依頼があり,そ れと併行 して当時の 皇太子殿下,現 天皇陛下のご意向 も伺い,赤 坂御用地での調査 も同研究所が鳥類保護連盟の協 力を得て行 うものとなった(黒 田1966)。 しか し,公 表 された赤坂御用地鳥類調査の結果は 1965年 および1966年 の2回(黒 田1966,1967)の みであり,そ の後1986年 柿澤により調査が 再開されるまで,皇 居のような継続的な調査は行われなかった。現在,同 調査は継続中であり, いずれこの長期にわたる調査結果をもとにして,赤 坂御用地内における鳥類個体数の変化など について考察を加えるべきことと考えるが,本 報告では,1986年 か ら2001年 にわたる調査結 果を明 らかにし,基 礎的なデータとして提示することのみを目的 とした。
