Resumen: Este ensayo critico recupera los aportes teoricos de Alberto Guerreiro Ramos, quien en 1959 escribio el libro La reduccion sociologica. Su valioso aporte se enmarca en el pensamiento latinoamericano en ciencia y universidad que se intenta reconstruir. Sus enunciados se entrelazan con los temas de investigacion actuales en torno a la movilizacion del conocimiento. Las agendas de investigacion, la valoracion de la actividad academica y la utilidad del conocimiento son analizadas a la luz de las contribuciones originales del brasilero Guerreiro Ramos, a partir de sus analisis y propuestas sobre las particularidades del trabajo sociologico en America Latina en tanto region periferica. Palabras clave: implicacion, compromiso, contexto, ciencia, periferia. Abstract: This critical essay recovers the theoretical contributions of Alberto Guerreiro Ramos, author of The sociological reduction (1959), a valuable contribution to Latin American thinking on science and the university, which we attempt to reconstruct. His statements are intertwined with current research issues on the mobilization of knowledge. Research agendas, assessment of academic activity and the usefulness of knowledge are analyzed in the light of Guerreiro Ramos’s original contributions, as well as his analysis and proposals on the specifics of sociological work in Latin America as a peripheral region.
