The objective of this work was evaluate metaphylactic effect of diphenyl diselenide (PhSe)2 of Holstein calves. Twenty female calves from birth to weaning were used, distributed in groups: diphenyl diselenide group (DDG), received 1.5 μmol/kg of (PhSe)2 in 2 mL of dimethylsulfoxide, subcutaneously; and control group (CG). Administrations and evaluations were performed on days 7, 21, 35, 49, with a final evaluation (70). Higher values of weight and mean daily weight gain happen on day 70 in DDG. Concerning to immunoglobulin G, except for day 7, higher levels were detected in DDG. Metaphylaxis with (PhSe)2 increases weight gain and immunoglobulin G of calves from the neonatal period to weaning.
