Homebased Workers May Appear to Be Independent but in Most Cases They Are Not ● This issue of SEEDS is one of several forthcoming editions that will focus on promoting the economic empowerment of women workers in selected occupations that employ large numbers of low-income women around the world (e.g., homebased work, street vending, waste recycling). Each will begin with a global overview of the situation of women workers in the selected occupation or trade and an analysis of the common obstacles they face. This will be followed by a description of the common strategies that have been developed by programs operating in a variety of settings to help these women overcome the constraints, both traditional and modern, inherent in these occupations. This issue focuses on the situation of homebased workers worldwide.
