In 2018, the second monograph by D. V. Dubrovskaya, dedicated to missionaries in China, was published. The author is well known to researchers of Christianity in the Middle Kingdom after the first significant study devoted to the mission of the Jesuits in China [Dubrovskaya, 2001], published almost two decades ago. The reviewed monograph demonstrates the author's turn from purely historical plots towards a new – art history. The book is dedicated to the work of the most influential and famous master at the court of the three great Manchu emperors of the Qing empire (Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong) Giuseppe Castiglione (Lang Shining; 1688-1766).
