PAL (Pathfinder Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer Land data sets) を用いて全球スケールの植生・土地被覆変動解析を行ったNDVIの年間積算値(ΣNDVI)年間最大NDVI(NDVImax)ΣNDVIの標準偏差(NDVIstd)年間最大地表面温度(Tmax)Ts-NDVI空間における軌跡の傾き(TRJ)の5つを地表面状態を表すパラメータと考え1982年から2000年の19年間のトレンド(NDVIstdを除く)の検討を行った結果ランダムではない空間パターンが得られたそれらのパターンの一部は従来の研究でも指摘されている気候要因(Climate-driven)によって説明可能であるが明らかに人間要因(Human-driven)と考えられる変動も抽出できた植生・土地被覆変動の要因解析には気候要因(Climate-driven)と人間要因(Human-driven)の両方の視点が必要であり両者を理解するためには異なる空間スケールから問題を捉える視点が重要であることを示したまたグローバルデータセットの中に地域の熱収支の変化に関するシグナルも抽出できたことは人間活動の気候への影響を示唆する重要な知見であると考えられる.
