Globally, the population are aging. The number of older adults is globally expected to increase from 420 million in 2000 to 974 million in 2030.[1] Insomnia, daytime sleepiness, and napping are all highly prevalent among the older adults.[2] Sleep problem in the elderly is often mistakenly considered a normal part of aging. Insomnia, the most common sleep disorder, is a subjective report of insufficient or nonrestrictive sleep despite adequate opportunity to sleep. Despite the fact that more than 50% of elderly people have insomnia, it is typically undertreated and no pharmacological interventions are undertaken by health-care practitioners.[3]
