In this paper, it was explained that the "proper" fewer-point difference scheme, which is used in the spatio-temporal derivative method for PIV sub-pixel analysis, is more advantageous than the method using many points. In the spatio-temporal derivative method, there is possibility that noisy pixels, which badly affect the measurement accuracy, can be eliminated by the feature of the method itself. So a robust algorithm utilizing that feature was proposed and evaluated by using artificial images. It was shown that the proposed method has very high accuracy and is robust to noise.
