Aims: To assess tooth loss evolution in a population of type 2 diabetic patients over a 4-year follow upperiod in regard to their dental and medical follow ups.Methods: Using a national data base of a French population of railways transport workers, we conducteda cohort analysis on the same population of diabetic patients by comparing 2016 data to previouslyanalyzed 2012 results. Evolution of oral health was provided by descriptive analysis of tooth extractionsand the frequency of scaling-prophylaxis through descriptive analysis, regarding medical and dentalappointments evolution over the time lapse.Results: Tooth extraction rates remain high for the diabetic patients in 2016 compared to the controlpopulation. Tooth loss occurs on average in a ten-year older age-range population, than in 2012. Dentalappointments and scaling prophylaxis sessions frequencies significantly improved between 2012 and2016.Conclusion: Over a 4 year-follow up period of time, data analysis of type 2 diabetic patient populationshows a steady and high rate of dental extractions. While scaling prophylaxis sessions and dentalappointments contribute to delay tooth loss, they failed to treat or eradicate the dental condition of toothloss in the diabetic patients.
