Most often when one metal in a subgroup has a higher melting point MP than another with a higher atomic number, then its Young's modulus also is higher (e.g. Be). However there are exceptional cases when for some metals (e.g. Mg) the melting point is lower and the E-modulus is higher than for the next metal with a higher AN in the same subgroup (e.g. Ca). This is explained by considering the product of density and specific heat rC p  (cal/cm 3 ) for metals with low MP and high heat required for heating to the MP.
